Registrar Insights

Namecheap continues to dominate as the preferred registrar for new website launches, followed closely by Hostinger and GoDaddy.

Notable trend: Cloudflare Registrar has grown significantly, reflecting the trend of developers choosing integrated DNS and domain management solutions.

DNS & Hosting Providers

Analysis of nameserver records reveals the infrastructure choices of website owners. Among 855,174 sites (70.0%) with DNS data, Other leads with 281,280 sites.

13 Squarespace 3,333 0.4%
14 OVH 3,090 0.4%
15 DreamHost 1,829 0.2%

Infrastructure Insights

Cloudflare dominates as the preferred DNS and CDN provider, offering free SSL, DDoS protection, and performance optimization that appeals to both small sites and enterprises.

AWS Route 53 shows strong adoption among more technical users and startups building on AWS infrastructure.

The "Other" category includes smaller providers, self-hosted DNS, and less common configurations.

Hosting Providers

Beyond DNS, we also fingerprint the actual hosting infrastructure each site is served from (the same data shown on each site's launch record page). Hosting was identified for 665,740 sites (54.5% of April launches). Hostinger leads with 117,891 sites (17.7% of identified hosts).

Top Hosting Providers

# Hosting Provider Count Share
1 Hostinger 117,891 17.7%
2 Vercel 116,131 17.4%
3 Shopify 87,940 13.2%
4 Netlify 42,332 6.4%
5 Namecheap 38,992 5.9%
6 Wix 38,186 5.7%
7 Squarespace 31,835 4.8%
8 Lovable 16,996 2.6%
9 GitHub Pages 16,647 2.5%
10 GoDaddy 15,773 2.4%
11 IONOS 13,763 2.1%
12 Google App Engine 10,414 1.6%
13 Render 10,364 1.6%
14 WordPress.com 7,855 1.2%
15 GoHighLevel 7,477 1.1%

Hosting Insights

The hosting field is a customer-facing brand fingerprint — not the underlying CDN or infrastructure provider. A site fronted by Cloudflare but actually hosted on Hostinger will be tagged with the latter.

Modern dev-oriented platforms (Vercel, Netlify, Render, Railway, GitHub Pages) collectively make up a sizable share, reflecting the growing population of indie developers and JAMstack/static deployments. Traditional shared hosts (Hostinger, GoDaddy, IONOS) and site builders (Shopify, Wix, Squarespace) still dominate raw volume.

Launch Record & Uptime Survival

Every site we discover gets an ongoing “launch record” — we keep checking whether it stays online after launch. Below is the snapshot across all sites in our database (not just April launches), grouped by how long each site has been live.

79.4%
Still up after 30+ days
75.1%
Still up after 90+ days
73.3%
Still up after 180+ days
Age since launch Sites in cohort Currently up Down Inactive % Up
30+ days 6,194,202 4,916,410 491,352 786,440 79.4%
90+ days 3,847,411 2,889,259 242,626 715,526 75.1%
180+ days 886,534 649,519 38,920 198,095 73.3%

What this means

Roughly 4 out of 5 newly-launched sites are still online a month after launch. That number drifts down to about 3 in 4 by the 6-month mark — meaning a meaningful share of new domains never make it past their first quarter.

Methodology & caveats: This is a current-status snapshot, not a true longitudinal cohort study. A site marked “down” today may have been online for the first 30 days and only failed later, so the figures above are best read as a lower bound on true 30-day survival. Sites are bucketed by their last automated HTTP/SSL check (up, down, or inactive); the underlying check runs continuously across our 7M+ tracked domains.

Domain extension choices reveal entrepreneur preferences. The .com TLD dominates with 742,908 registrations, representing 60.8% of all launches.
