We Tracked Every Website That Launched in September 2025. The Data is Wild.
Last month, we did something unusual: we tracked every single website that went live on the internet.
Not just the startup darlings or VC-backed companies. Every website. E-commerce stores, personal blogs, local restaurants, SaaS tools, portfolio sites—everything.
The final count: 368,454 new websites in 30 days.
That's 12,282 websites per day. 512 per hour. 8.5 per minute.
While you're reading this sentence, 4 new websites just launched somewhere in the world.
Here's what we learned.
📈 The Scale is Staggering
Let's put 368,454 monthly launches in perspective:
- That's more websites than there are Starbucks locations worldwide
- If each launch took 100 hours of work, that's 4.2 million collective hours of effort in one month
- More new websites launched in September than total users on most "successful" social media apps
The internet isn't just growing. It's exploding.
🏪 What's Everyone Building?
After categorizing all 368,454 sites, here's the breakdown:
1. E-Commerce & Online Stores: 36% (119,446 sites)
More than one-third of all launches are stores. Everyone's trying to sell something. Clothing, supplements, digital products, dropshipping—the e-commerce dream is alive and kicking.
2. Professional Services: 19% (63,728 sites)
Lawyers, consultants, agencies, freelancers. The "portfolio + contact form" business is massive.
3. Local Businesses: 13% (43,071 sites)
Restaurants, salons, contractors, dental practices. Main Street is finally going online.
4. Content & Media: 9% (29,497 sites)
Blogs, news sites, entertainment portals, content creators building their own platforms.
5. Technology & Software: 5% (16,368 sites)
The actual "tech" launches everyone talks about? Less than 5% of reality.
🌍 Where All These Sites Come From
The United States dominates: 70% of all launches.
Top 10 countries by launches:
- 🇺🇸 USA: 91,300 (70%)
- 🇮🇳 India: 10,549 (8%)
- 🇬🇧 UK: 3,658 (3%)
- 🇨🇳 China: 2,183 (2%)
- 🇦🇺 Australia: 2,051 (2%)
- 🇨🇦 Canada: 1,929 (1.5%)
- 🇦🇪 UAE: 1,704 (1.3%)
- 🇵🇰 Pakistan: 1,634 (1.3%)
- 🇩🇪 Germany: 995 (0.8%)
- 🇧🇩 Bangladesh: 802 (0.6%)
The interesting part? India is punching way above its weight at #2. For every 9 US launches, there's 1 from India. The next wave of internet businesses is being built in Mumbai and Bangalore.
🏙️ Top US Cities for Launches:
- New York City — 1,925 launches (still the king)
- Los Angeles — 1,303
- San Francisco — 1,003
- Austin — 946
- San Diego — 878
- Houston — 874
- Miami — 776
The Sheridan, Wyoming Mystery Returns: This town of 18,000 people had 575 website launches. Why? It's where thousands of LLCs are registered. Half the addresses you see are fake.
🛠️ The Platform Wars: What People Actually Use
Forget the Twitter debates. Here's what founders actually choose:
- WordPress: 32% — Still crushing it
- Shopify: 31% — Nearly tied with WordPress (e-commerce is huge)
- WordPress + WooCommerce: 13% — WordPress takes another 13% via e-comm
- Squarespace: 12% — The designer's favorite
- Wix: 11% — Stronger than people think
- Webflow: 1.3% — Loud community, small market share
Combined, WordPress powers 45% of all new websites.
Despite every "WordPress is dying" article, it's actually growing. Shopify is the only real competitor, and that's because e-commerce is 36% of all launches.
Webflow reality check: Despite all the hype, it's 1.3% of launches. The design Twitter bubble doesn't reflect reality.
📅 When Do People Actually Launch?
We analyzed launch patterns across the entire month:
Monday: 18% of all launches — The clear winner
Why? People work on their sites over the weekend and hit publish Monday morning. It's "fresh start of the week" energy.
Tuesday-Friday: 14-16% each — Steady throughout the week
Saturday: 14% — Still decent
Sunday: 8% — The dead zone
Lesson: If you're planning a launch, Monday-Thursday is your sweet spot. Avoid Sunday—it's where launches go to die.
💡 What This Actually Means For You
If you're building something, here's what matters:
1. You're Not Special (And That's Okay)
12,282 websites launch every day. Yours is one of them. Standing out requires more than just launching—it requires showing up consistently after launch.
2. E-Commerce is Saturated (But People Keep Trying)
36% of launches are online stores. That's 4,315 new stores per day competing for attention. If you're building an e-commerce site, you better have a real differentiation strategy.
3. The "Tech Startup" Myth
Only 5% of launches are actual tech/software products. The vast majority (95%) are normal businesses: stores, services, local businesses, content sites. The internet is for everyone, not just SaaS founders.
4. Platform Choice Doesn't Matter As Much As You Think
WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace, Wix—they all work. Stop debating platforms and start building. The winners aren't using better tools, they're executing better.
5. India is Coming
8% of all global launches come from India. That's 1,000+ new Indian websites per day. If you're building a global product, you can't ignore this market anymore.
6. Launch on Monday (Really)
18% more sites launch on Monday than Sunday. There's wisdom in crowds. Monday mornings have momentum. Sunday nights don't.
🎯 The Hard Truth Nobody Wants to Hear
368,454 websites launched in September.
How many will still be actively updated in 6 months? Probably less than 10%.
How many will make meaningful revenue? Maybe 1-2%.
How many will become "successful" by any measure? Less than 1%.
Launching is easy. WordPress takes 5 minutes. Shopify takes 20. But launching isn't the hard part.
The hard part is what happens on Day 2.
And Day 30. And Day 180.
Most of these 368,454 sites will be abandoned. Their founders will move on to the next idea. The domain will expire. The internet will forget they ever existed.
But that's actually good news for you.
Because if you're one of the few who sticks around—who keeps shipping, keeps improving, keeps showing up—you're not competing against 12,282 launches per day.
You're competing against the 200-300 per day who don't quit.
🚀 What We're Building
We started Website Launches because launch day matters. It's exciting. It's terrifying. It deserves to be celebrated.
Every day, we track every new website that goes live. We organize them by category, location, and platform. We give founders a place to share their work and get discovered.
Because in a world where 12,282 websites launch daily, being seen is the first step.
